Now that you have plenty of ideas for books to read aloud to children, where will you find them all?
Of course, your local library is your first stop. The library is a fun trip and a good chance to see lots of titles and try them out for free.
But not everyone is close to a library, and often you just want your own copy of a book. What to do now?
Do you want to purchase a new book?
If you are lucky enough to live near a bookstore, this is another fun outing where you can find books on your list and discover many others.
If you want to go online, Amazon certainly has lots of titles. They are usually a quick and easy option for new books. Barnes and Noble also has an extensive online site as do many others including many independent bookstores.
However, there are lots of good reasons to buy used books.
A used book will usually be much less expensive, and they are still every bit as good as a new one for reading and loving.
Many wonderful titles have gone out of print. For these, the only way to own one is to find a used copy.
So how does a person go about looking for used children’s books? I’m so glad you asked! This is one of my favorite hobbies.
Etsy and eBay are two good online sources for used books. Amazon and the other big sellers also have used selections. Online resources are convenient, but often you can find treasures closer to home and maybe for less money, too.
There are many used book stores. If you live near one, this is a good place to frequent. Once you get to know the staff, they will often learn what you like and point out new arrivals.
Thrift stores have lots of books too. Goodwill has a book section and also has some dedicated used book stores. Check the local thrift shops in your area. Remember that their selection varies often based on donations.
Many libraries have used book stores and/or used book sales. This is an excellent way to build your library inexpensively.
Yard sales and rummage sales often have a large book selection. Watch for these in your neighborhood. A used book venue usually has an amazing selection. Imagine a bookstore where no two titles are the same!!
Happy Hunting!
